Today we travelled north from Vars with some great views along the way.

After stopping to buy a few groceries our eyes were drawn towards the west into the Ecrins National Park.

We decided to take a trip into the National Park.

We travelled through the village of Ailfroide where we had camped many years ago and on to the road head in the heart of the Park.

The surroundings are truly spectacular here.

The Park authorities do not allow overnight stays here in tents or vehicles.

We had a cup of tea and a biscuit while admiring the views.

The vegetation is mainly still to come into leaf up here.

The snowy peaks look really spectacular against the blue sky.

The parking area here is at 1875 metres above sea level.

I'm not 100% sure but I think this peak is the Barre des Ecrins 4102 mettres high.

Just to the right of this high peak a large glacier can be seen.

We somewhat reluctantly decided to respect the Park's ban on overnight stays and made our way back down the valley. We saw a Marmot sitting on this stone but it ran off before we could photograph it!

The road down the valley is really beautiful.

We stopped for the day at the village of Vallouise-Pelvoux. We are parked by the river. Here's the view from our van.

This evening the weather has been quite rainy.

Today we travelled 44 miles (71 kilometres). We are at: N44.8652 E6.4871
