We had quite a late start today but when we finally got going we set off south west and fairly soon came to the approach to a high pass near the peak of Puy Mary (1787 metres). Because the road is narrow and with numerous hairpin bends over the pass the authorities have decided on a sensible solution to avoid gridlock. Larger vehicles can only travel south west from midnight to 12.45 and north east only from 12.00 till midnight. We arrived at about 12.15 so we had to wait a bit for our turn to cross.

There are some good views from here.

The weather was a bit threatening.

Ann reckons she saw these very large dogs towing someone on a bicycle along!?

When 12.45 came round we set off over the pass.

The weather got worse and worse as we approached the pass and when we got to the top there was more or less zero visibility and a violent hailstorm!

Coming down the other side.

The weather still not too good but much better than up on the pass.

Having descended from the pass we continued south west along a ridge way with great views either side.

We stopped for the day at the town of Aurillac. Here's our van on the left parked at the aire de camping car in the town centre.

We are parked just next to the river.

We walked into the historic centre. Here's the cheese market (cheese is a very important part of the economy round here).

There are some nice old narrow streets in town.

The church is exceptionally tall. We couldn't go in as there were "works" going on.

The Town Hall is a bit brash!

Back at the van we noticed that we are parked underneath several rook's  nests. The van is getting progressively more and more covered in rook shit!

Today we travelled 41 miles (66 kilometres). We are at: N44.9295 E2.4496
