Monday 9th May 2022

It was very misty early this morning but it soon cleared up to give a hot sunny day. We made a short trip to visit a reconstruction of the Chauvet Cave. The cave was discovered in 1994 and contains prehistoric rock art dating from 36,000 years ago. The actual cave has never been open to the public in order to preserve the very delicate paintings and drawings. The tour of the reconstructed cave took about an hour and cost 17 euros each! No concessions for old people here. No photography was allowed inside the "cave".

After the "cave" visit we travelled south east down the gorges of the river Ardeche.

There were sensational views all along the way.

There are numerous places to stop and admire the views.

The river winds around far below.

Eventually we reached the River Rhone. The valley floor is vast and flat. There are vineyards every where. We stopped to fill our LPG tanks at the town of Bollene.

We stopped for the day at the village of St Restitut - at the aire de camping cars. We stayed here in December 2014 and we remember the place well.

Today we travelled 67 miles (108 kilometres). We are at: N44.3308 E4.7907
