Thursday 19th May 2022

This morning the occupant of the mysterious British registered, very old, taxed but not MOT'd van went out with her two dogs.

After servicing the van and buying some bread we left Argentiere heading east. We stopped to take in the views at the Col des Montets.

Looking back west.

And looking north.

We descended from the col and crossed into Switzerland.

We stopped again to admire the views at the Col de Forclaz.

View!

We then started a long descent into the city of Martigny.

It was a very long way down.

The mountainsides here are covered in vineyards.

We stopped in Martigny to visit the Pierre Gianadda Foundation - there is a Rodin sculpture at the entrance.

This is the main hall. There were numerous school parties visiting at the same time as us.

The Foundation is mainly an art gallery but there are many other aspects to it. Unfortunately there was a ban on photography in many parts of the building but there were other parts where it was permitted to take photographs.

It cost us 16 swiss francs (a lot of money) each to get in but it was well worth it.

The highlight of the visit for me was the sculpture park - this is by Joan Miro.

Auguste Rodin.

Henry Moore.

A very very large sculpture.

Barbara Hepworth.

A conversation ?

William Tell's apple.

There was also an exhibition featuring Leonardo Da Vinci's inventions.

In the basement there is a fantastic collection of old cars - the oldest manufactured in 1897. Unfortunately no photography was allowed down there.

We moved on the short distance east to the village of Saillon where we stopped for the day. We are guests of the spa.

There are some fantastic views form our parking place.

There was a bit of a thunder storm up in the mountains this afternoon but it didn't amount to much down here.

We thought about eating out at the spa hotel's restaurant but when we looked at the menu we decided it was a bit too posh for the likes of us!

Later on there was a football match at the pitch just next to the parking area and the previously almost empty spaces soon became well populated with spectator's cars. We've moved our van a little to be out of the crush.

Today we travelled 33 miles (53 kilometres). We are at: N46.1738 E7.1938
