Sunday 22nd May 2022

Today we did some really quite difficult travelling! From our overnight stop at Santa Maria Maggiore we went eastwards towards Lake Maggiore. The main road was closed so we had to take a very narrow very twisting road all the way to the town of Connobio on the lake shore. We were absolutely terrified with lots of traffic coming in the opposite direction on a road barely wide enough for our van and with crash barriers on both sides. After servicing the van in Cannobio we travelled north up the west coast of the lake.

We crossed back from Italy into Switzerland.

We turned east round the north end of the lake and went under the City of Locarno in this 5.5 kilometre tunnel.

We then came south towards the City of Lugano and did a small grocery shop at a garage before crossing back into Italy.

From Lugano we came east to the town of Menaggio on the west shore of Lake Como where we stopped for the day. Here's the view out of the windscreen of our van where we are parked,

This building just along the lake shore from where we are apparently featured in a James Bond film!

There is a playpark on the lakeside just next to us.

There is also a boat marina. As you can see we couldn't have parked much nearer to Lake Como.

It's been very hot today.

This old woman lives over the road - she chats to all the passers by.

The people next to her are obviously patriotic. This evening it's been very noisy here with AC Milan football supporters driving through the town blowing their horns and waving banners following the team becoming Italian Champions.

Today we travelled 75 miles (121 kilometres). We are at: N46.0336 E9.2374

I remember that James Bond film Roger.
It's where 007 shoots the baddie in the leg, at the end of Casino Royale.

Raining today in Widecombe, your grass will be getting longer!
I'll take my mower over next weekend if the weather gets better.

Hi Judy and Steve,

Thanks for your comments.

Steve,

I'm not really a Bond movie fan but the clips you've sent us a link to are quite eye catching!

Please don't go to any trouble with our lawn - you do so much for us anyway what with collecting the post and looking after the house while we're away!
