Saturday 16th December 2017

This morning the ship's PA system woke us up bright and early advising us to vacate our cabin and have breakfast. We did the former but not the latter. Here we are waiting to arrive in port.

Before too long Palermo came into view.

The Pilot came aboard.

We docked in Palermo at about 8.00. Driving out of the city was fairly hairy. The Rough Guide to Italy describes drivers here as "some of the most anarchic in Europe" - I agree! Eventually we got out of the City and stopped for breakfast and a supermarket shop in the town of Partinico to the west of Palermo.

We stopped for the day at the Aire (or Sosta Camper as they call such things round here) at Castellammare on the coast. It was quite rainy this afternoon so Ann  availed herself of the Aire's washing machine to do the clothes and I sat around in the van doing nothing. The van on the left of the picture has Norwegian plates. The one on the right is Italian registered. From what we could gather from the woman in charge here the Norwegians are currently away but will be back in January. I tried to discuss the issue of money with her but she said (as I probably misunderstood it) that we would discuss that tomorrow!

Today we travelled 43 miles (69 kilometres) excluding the distance on the ferry from Cagliari to Palermo. We are at N38.02533 E12.89028
