Sunday 10th December 2017

This morning we left Alghero and headed south east to look for a archaeological remains of the indigenous prehistoric inhabitants of Sardinia. We met some sheep along the way.

The Nuragh Santu Antine at Torralba is absolutely enormous. It is described in the site interpretative material as a palace. These ruins are estimated to be 3500 years old but that date is speculative and nothing whatsoever is known of the culture which built this and about 7000 more lesser structures of this type in Sardinia.

I was amazed by the size of the blocks of volcanic rock which had been used to construct this huge building.

Inside an outer double wall is an inner double wall forming the sides of an enormous tower.

You can walk around inside the double wall of the tower.

Inside the ground floor of the tower you can look up to see this beautifully constructed roof.

Spiral stairs lead up to the first floor in the tower.

The first floor is crowned by another marvellous roof.

The spiral stairs within the double wall finally lead you to the present top of the tower. It is thought that originally the tower was much higher and formed the central tower in a complex with three outer towers surrounding it in a triangular pattern.

Looking down from the top of the tower you can see that the main structure was surrounded by numerous subsidiary structures some of which were apparently modified for use in Roman times 1500 years after their original construction.

We moved on travelling south west and back to the coast of Sardinia, at the town of Bosa pictured here, where we bought some groceries.

We stopped for the day at Bosa Marina on some waste ground by the sea. Here's the view from our parking place.

The weather has become progressively worse with stronger and stronger winds and more and more rain as the day went on. Here's the view out the front of our van this evening.

Today we travelled 69 miles (111 kilometres). We are at N40.28443 E8.48314
