Sunday 3rd December 2017

Today was dry and mostly sunny. We continued traveling north up the west coast of Corsica. We went through some truly amazing land and seascapes.

This is part of the Calanche de Piana.

Unfortunately it is impossible to convey in photos how spectacular this place is. You just have to come to see for yourself.

It is really absolutely stunning. The narrow road threads through these rocks on a ledge suspended between the high crags and the sea.

At this time of year there is very little traffic through here. I imagine in high season this place would become very congested.

We stopped along the way for a cup of tea at this marvelous viewpoint.

We encountered some goats.

We also often saw cattle, apparently many kilometres away from any human settlement, grazing in the Maquis.

We took a detour on a minor road and stopped for a while by these fabulous rocks.

Eventually we stopped for the day in the town of Calvi. The civic authorities here appear to have a pathological dislike of camper vans and have imposed a blanket ban on them stopping anywhere in town. To get round this problem we are tonight the uninvited guests of Super U supermarket. You can see the snowy mountains in the left of the picture.

There is a launderette here.

Ann supervised the washing and drying.

In the meantime I walked into the town centre. This is the Citadel.

Here's a view from closer up.

Down on the seafront there are quite a few open eateries even though it's December and Sunday!

It's dark now and very very quiet in Super U's car park. Lets hope it stays that way! They're supposed to open at 8.30 tomorrow and I'm looking forward to nipping across to buy a couple of croissants and a baguette.

To day we traveled 72 miles (116 kilometres). We are at N42.56140 E8.75452
