Today we visited the ruins of the ancient city of Nora. We had a guided tour all to ourselves. The woman who guided us round spoke good English even though she had a very poor opinion of her command of the language.

Like many sites in the Mediterranean Nora has been built by several different civilisations. The main remains are Roman. The site is on a peninsula with three ports so it could be used by sailing ships in any wind direction.

Here's some Roman road.

This is a Roman sewer.

These are original Roman columns (unlike the ones we saw at Tharros).

There are some well preserved mosaic floors.

This is the Roman theatre.

We moved on the short distance to the city of Cagliari and parked just outside the ferry terminal. We are booked onto the 19.30 sailing to Palermo in Sicily a journey scheduled to take 12 hours. We set off for a walk around the city centre.

The old city is set high above the modern one and has impressive walls.

Most of the streets up here are very narrow.

From the walls there are some great views.

We left the old city centre through this fine old gate.

We wandered back to our parking place and after a bit of a wait we got onto the ship. The loading was all a bit chaotic but eventually we got a key to our cabin, had showers and a nice meal in the self service restaurant.

Today we travelled 36 miles (58 kilometres) in our van. We are at N39.21380 E9.10794
