Saturday 23rd December 2017

This morning before leaving the Aire at Marina di Noto we met a couple from Leicester who had just arrived in their van with their 3 young children. Before leaving the area we drove the 500 or so metres down to the coast to watch the waves for a bit.

Everywhere around here has its own resident dogs that don't "belong" to anyone and just hang around.

After stopping in the town of Avola (famous for the red wine Nero di Avola) to buy groceries and diesel we made a  long journey inland travelling northwest. We stopped briefly along the way to marvel at this enormous cactus farm. What are they used for?

We passed some interesting looking places on narrow winding roads. We are quite reluctant to go into small towns round here in our van as the streets are often very narrow with cars parked in such a way that you can't get through. Along the way we could often see the lofty peak of Mount Etna.

We headed for the town of Raddusa. We made an abortive detour following signs to a nearby "lake" which proved to be an almost dried up reservoir with an appalling road surface and nowhere to park. We returned to Raddusa and found this nice quiet flat parking place on the edge of town.

I took a walk around town. It was really buzzing. Lots of people out and about and everywhere open. This is a real place - not like the ones down on the coast where everything is closed and there's no one around.

Today we travelled 119 Miles (192 kilometres). We are at N37.47125 E14.52888
