Wednesday 3rd November 2021

It rained a lot in the night and it was still raining early on this morning. We set off north travelling through seemingly never ending pine forests on very straight roads. We entered the Medoc - famous for wine but we saw no vineyards! As the morning went on the weather improved and the sun came out.

We stopped in the town of Hourtin to buy a baguette before coming on two kilometres west to the shore of a very large lake. We are staying at the aire de camping cars. Here's the view from the side door of our van.

There is a beautiful carpet of autumn leaves outside our van.

It costs 11.95 euros for 24 hours to stay here but electricity and water are included in the price. Still a bit expensive for off season!

The marina is a couple of hundred metres away from the aire. No one seemed to be putting to lake.

We visited the beach.

It wasn't very crowded.

We walked down to the end of the breakwater which protects the marina from storms.

Here's the breakwater. As none of the eateries at the lakeside were open and we fancied going out for lunch we decided to walk into Hourtin to a restaurant which had good reviews on Google.

It was a 2 kilometre walk to the restaurant but well worth it. We had the menu of the day which started with an all you can eat buffet followed by sausages on a bed of white cabbage in a delicious sauce followed by a choice of desserts all for 13 euros each!

This was the first time we'd been out for lunch on this trip. It makes more sense than going out for an evening meal around these parts as we tend to go to bed quite early.

After we'd walked the 2 kilometres back to the aire we noticed that unusually for an aire there are toilets here and there is a formidable list of the things you are not supposed to do in them posted on the wall outside.

Today we travelled 35 miles (56 kilometres). We are at: N45.1805 W1.0806
