Sunday 21st November 2021

The weather was much colder than of late but dry and sunny most of the time. We could see the mountains from Castlegregory.

We came east into Tralee and did our clothes washing at a launderette.

The town of Ardfert is north west of Tralee. We got there in a rather round about way.

 We visited the ruined cathedral.

This site dates from the 6th Centaury.

However the present structure dates from the 13th Centaury onwards.

This site is associated with St Brendan the Navigator who supposedly visited north America in a small boat 800 years before Columbus!

The visitors centre was closed to day so we didn't get to see the effigies of two local bishops which are in there according to our guidebook.

After we had visited the cathedral we drove the short distance down to the coast at Banna Beach hoping to find a nice spot to stop for the day and night. However when we got there the place was absolutely packed out. The only car park without a height barrier was absolutely full of cars and there were crowds of people on the beach. We came back to Ardfert and stopped for the day in the very large and very empty car park of St Brendan's Church.

We didn't go into the church but it was obviously open.

The toilets however were locked.

This afternoon we had the car park to ourselves.

Today we travelled (in a roundabout way) 39 miles (63 kilometres). We are at: N52.3267 W9.7848
