This morning we woke up to find two more camper vans parked next to us - one each side. We took a short detour up a side road to get a better view of the lake which we had seen from the other side yesterday.

We travelled higher up into the Wicklow Mountains. Here's a view we had along the way.

We parked our van at the Glenmalure Lodge pub and took a walk up the valley.

We came upon this large boulder by the roadside.

It has two inscriptions.

Both inscriptions are in the Irish Language.

The road passed close to the river.

We came upon this spectacular torrent coming down the mountainside.

We decided we were not going to make it all the way to the road end without mechanical assistance so I walked back to Glenmalure Lodge and drove the van back up the valley to pick up Ann.

We parked where the road up Glenmalure comes to an end.

It's a beautiful spot.

There is another inscribed boulder here,

After a while we returned to Glenmalure Lodge where we stopped for the day.

This evening we had a meal out in the pub. The Wicklow beer was very nice.

Ann had chicken which she said was very nice. I had venison which was very tough! It must have been a very old deer which ended up on my plate. I didn't like to complain in view of this sign on the wall above out table! We had raspberry pavlova to follow which was very tasty.

Today we travelled 16 miles (26 kilometres). We are at: N52.9575 W6.3543

The Irish inscribed boulder commemorates 2 well known historical figures. One - Feagh McHugh fought a battle here in 1580 against the English army and the Lord Deputy in which it was alleged 800 English soldiers were killed. I think you would judge that the terrain here would favour the guerrilla style tactics of the natives. The other - Michael Dwyer was a United Irishman who was involved in in the 1798 Rebellion and was deported to Australia. .
