Today the weather was much clearer than yesterday. We left Sneem travelling westwards and then following the coast of the peninsula round to the north.

There were marvellous views in all directions.

We stopped along the way several times.

We came upon this shrine while crossing a very steep pass. We stopped for a cup of tea at the village of Portmagee and then headed east along the north coast of the Iveragh Peninsula.

When we stopped at a layby we felt that we'd all of a sudden hit the tourist trail!

From here we could look north across to the Dingle Peninsula.

We stopped for the day at the Kerry Bog Village.

It costs 5 euros to visit the village.

The village gives visitors an excellent insight into how ordinary people lived in this area in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It must have been a very very hard life.

There was no running water or electricity.

Some villagers shared their houses with farm animals.

This ruined cottage has a sad story.

It's hard to imagine the horrors of Ms O'Shea's life.

Some people in the village had a better standard of living than others. This cottage has a considerable amount of accommodation.

There is a real live Kerry Bog Pony living at the village. This breed of pony is very small and light and was used for all farm tasks such as bringing turf (peat) from the bog for use on house fires.

Turf.

There may well have been a shebeen in the village.

Inside the shebeen.

The Red Fox Inn is next to the Bog Village. We are staying in the large car park behind the pub and the village.

From our parking place we have views to Macgillycuddy's Reeks. These are the highest mountains in Ireland rising to well over 1000 metres.

Today we travelled 71 miles (114 kilometres). We are at: N52.0740 W9.8828
