Today we travelled west, crossing this fine new bridge along the way.

We stopped by the harbour in Dungarvan to buy some bread and have a cup of tea. Here's the view.

We arrived in Ardmore and parked next to the ruins of St Declan's Monastery which is high above the village. There are marvellous views from up here.

The ruins of the monastery are on a similar pattern to the ones at Glendalough. As at Glendalough the ruins are surrounded by modern burials.

The 30 metre high tower was used for defensive purposes in the event of an attack on the monastery. The door, seen here, is high up - a ladder would have been used to gain access and then pulled up inside the tower when all the monks were safely inside!

Nearby are the remains of the cathedral.

The end wall of the cathedral has these marvellous depictions of various biblical stories.

This is the cathedral interior.

This is one of two stones inside the cathedral with ogam inscriptions. Stones with this ancient form of writing are found not only in Ireland but in Scotland, Wales, The Isle of Man and in South West England.

Also nearby is the building known as St Declan's Oratory. It has been reroofed in modern times. It is thought that St Declan, the founder of the monastery, was buried here but his remains were stolen by relic hunters.

We stopped for the day at Ardmore. We are at what would be described in France as an Aire de Camping Car. It's called a Motorhome Parking Area here in Ireland. It costs 12 euros a night to stay here which includes water and perhaps electricity.

From the aire it's just a few steps to the beach.

You could walk into Ardmore Village along the beach from here but we didn't as rain was threatening.

This is a very very nice place to stay. Thanks to whoever thought of us campervanners and constructed the aire.

Today we travelled 87 miles (140 kilometres). We are at: N51.9562 W7.7217
