Friday 14th June 2019

This morning we moved on westwards crossing into the province of Finesterre (the end of the land), stopping along the way to service the van, take on diesel and LPG and do a supermarket shop. We stopped for the day at the town of Pont Aven and parked by the river. We decided to take a walk into the town centre.

The famous painter Paul Gaugan used to hang out here in the late 19th Century before moving to Tahiti and giving half the population there syphilis.

He painted the previous picture just here.

We crossed the river into the Bois D'Amour (The Wood of Love).

The wood is beautiful and mysterious.

The are quite a few ponts over the aven.

Here's another - this one's in the centre of town.

Here are the public lavatories. I think that this was once a grain storage barn. It is very similar to those found in Galicia in north west Spain. A Celtic connection?

When Gaugan was in Pont Aven he resided at the Pension Gloanec. It's now a bookshop.

There is a small port where the river becomes tidal.

This place is mainly excessively twee but there are also some unsightly ex industrial buildings.

Here's the main square.

We walked back towards our parking place with the odd rest along the way.

The river is very scenic. This is right in the town centre.

Later on after sitting around in our van for a while we took another walk into the Bois D'Amour.

It's a really pretty place.

We don't seem to have taken any pictures of the industrial dereliction on the other side of the river.

This cat hangs out at the old mill just over the bridge from our parking place.

This evening just as we were discussing the fact that today was the first day for a while that it hadn't rained it poured! Here's the view through the windscreen of our van.

Today we travelled 34 miles (55 kilometres). We are at N47.85932 W3.74419
