Sunday 18th October

Today an interesting journey through wooded hills interspersed by enormous expanses of olive cultivation.

We crossed from Castilla La Mancha into Andalucia and parked at the visitor centre of the Parque Natural de las Sierras de Segura y Cazorla. We came 63 miles (101 kilometres) today. We had read in the Rough Guide to Spain of the classic walk up the Rio Borasa Gorge from here and we did the first section of the walk.

It is a beautiful wild gorge to walk with steep cliffs amazing vegetation and a beautiful river. Unfortunately contrary to expectations we saw very little wildlife. The park visitor centre has a very large car park so we are staying the night right down at the bottom of the hill by the river. Lovely spot apart form the odd barking dog and crowing chicken in the smallholdings on the other bank. Saw a black squirrel up a tree just next to where we're staying.
