Monday 12th October

After a late start we did some shopping and filled up with diesel before leaving Tremp. We climbed up high above the town on this minor road heading south west. This view is looking back at Tremp.

We travelled on minor roads through some quite barren country.

We passed this imposing rock tooth.

We crossed from Catalunya into Aragon and stopped for the night in the town of Monzon which is dominated by the castle. We travelled 60 miles (97 kilometres today).

We walked around town. The cathedral which used to be a mosque until it was "conquered" by the "Spanish" in 1098 was locked. Maybe it's only open on Sundays unlike the church in Tremp?

There is some nice public art in Monzon if sometimes dominated by high rise blocks. The whole place however reeks of depression - closed shops, decaying buildings, young people with nothing to do - the reality of austerity is much more manifest here than in Britain or France.

We are staying tonight at the town's Aire. It is great to see a sign like this - "no parking except for campervans". It's free to park here.

In our home village of Widecome visitors are "greeted" with a sign at the entry to the public car park saying "strictly no overnight sleeping in vehicles". And of course you get charged for parking. Shame on you Teignbridge District Council!

This evening there was an amazing electrical storm in Monzon. Continuous lightning flashes and rolls of thunder accompanied by torrential rain. Went on for about an hour
