Thursday 1st October

We made the short journey of 17 miles (27 kilometres) east to St Flour. Here is the cathedral built of black volcanic stone.

Inside it is a little less sombre.

The old town of St Flour was built on a high cliff with commanding views to the newer developments below.

We came across yet another menhir - not sure about this one's provenance - it is near where we are parked for the night close to the old town of St Flour. Ann has baguette in hand in true French style.

This arch was once one of the town wall gates.

The geology of the cliff St Flour is built on is quite striking. These basalt ? columns are reminiscent  of the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland.
