Monday 5th October

After various activities in Arles including buying a hacksaw, braking it, taking if back for a refund and then buying another hacksaw and sawing off the end of our van's new exhaust pipe we left town and headed south into the Camargue.

We stopped for a while at the town of Salin de Giraud where we went for a walk and the very large pine cone Ann is holding here dropped out of a tree and narrowly missed her!

The famous white horses of the Camargue were all around as well as some of other colours. Apparently the Camargue horses are brown when they are young and only turn white as they get older.

We decided that Giraud was a boring little town and moved on further south toward the mouth of the Rhone. There were flamingos everywhere!

The road became a causeway.

Eventually we came to the end of the road at Plage de Piemanson where the Rhone delta finally ends at the Mediterranean. It took us a while to work out whether this was van hell or van heaven.

We took a walk on the beach. There was a lot of kite surfing going on as it was very windy.

Even though there were plenty of people around this place felt very remote indeed. We decided to stay the night here. We helped a couple from the Netherlands start their van using jump leads. For some reason they gave us a really nice bottle of wine to thank us.

It probably is van heaven here but maybe there are too many vans?!  We travelled 48 miles (77 kilometres) today.
