Today we continued to travel south. After taking on diesel we climbed to the high pass of Ballon D'Alsace - 1200+ metres. There is some public art on the pass.
Cycling up passes is very popular around here - I must say I can't see how this can be enjoyable!
There are some great views from up here.
Seems like this is a good place for.......
.....parapente.
We descended from the pass via many hairpin bends.
We stopped for the day at a car park in the village of Montreux-Chateau. We are close to the Swiss border.
The Rhine - Rhone Canal passes close by.
This lock on the canal is just a few metres from our parking place.
There are lots of boats moored here, one of which is a restaurant - here's the menu.
There are service points for the boats all along here.
We went for a ride/walk.
We passed the local stork sitting on its nest.
We visited the Mairie.
Ann did a neat turn outside the Mairie.
The old laundry is just across the way from the Mairie.
We went down onto the Rhine - Rhone Canal towpath.
We set off along the towpath. The floating restaurant is just ahead on the other side of the canal.
It was really beautiful and peaceful along the canal.
Passing cyclists were the only slightly less peaceful aspect of the trip, but not a problem as Ann is much more confident now.
The village Aire is just across the road from our parking place. No entry except for Campervans. Here's a sign we would be most unlikely to come across in Britain where we campervanners are generally treated as fourth class citizens! None of the vans here is parked in the Aire as it is not level and charges 5 euros for 24 hours.
This very large A class motorhome turned up and parked on the soft verge of the car park. The Mayor turned up and told him to move in no uncertain terms. You can just see that his front wheel is sinking into the grass verge!
The local stork has a stork-let. Poor quality photo due to 90x magnification. This evening there was a massive party on the car park. Someones Birthday?
Today we travelled 46 miles (74 kilometres). We are at: N47.6020 E7.0024
