This morning we went into Nice. Here we are on the Promenade des Anglais where the terrorist attack using a lorry to mow down pedestrians took place not so long ago.

We parked for most of the day at a viewpoint high above Villefranche sur Mer just to the east of Nice. This view is looking towards Cap Ferrat.

At about 17.00 we went down to the ferry terminal in Nice and checked in for our crossing to Bastia in Corsica. Here's the front of our ship...............

..............and here's the back.

Loading up the ship seemed quite chaotic even though there were very few vehicles to load. When we finally got on board we were directed to park our van at the very front of the ship right next to a pile of apparently unsecured metal pipes. The staff then directed a hired commercial van to park so close to us that its' right hand mirror collided with our left hand mirror. This van was so close to ours that we couldn't get out of either the sliding door or the passenger's door so we had to clamber out of the drivers door which we could only open a small amount and climb on the pile of metal pipes.

I remonstrated with the driver of the hire van about colliding with our mirror. He said that he was told to park there by the ship staff! Eventually I calmed down and we shook hands! Here you can see a blurred view of Nice at night taken from our cabin through a rather dirty window as we were leaving.

This is our cabin. When we had settled in and had showers etc I went to see the reception and tried to make a formal complaint about how we had been collided with, blocked in and forced to get out of our vehicle onto an unstable pile of metal pipes. They took a photocopy of my passport and promised that I would be contacted by one of the ship's officers. No such contact was made. We had a meal in the self service restaurant - Ann had cauliflower cheese and chips - I had goulash and chips. We washed it down with a very nice but expensive bottle of Corsican red wine.

Today we traveled 19 miles (31 kilometres) driving our van.
