It was nice and sunny this morning when we got up. We set off south east and passed by the city of Roanne. We stopped for a cup of tea on the side of this wooded valley. There were marvelous autumn colours all around.

We headed for the Aire at Joux but when we got there we found that it was so sloping that it would have been very uncomfortable to overnight there so after taking on water we moved on the short distance to the town of Violay. It is high here - about 800 metres above sea level and there has obviously been snow recently.

The town Aire has space for 2 or 3 vans on specially leveled areas in a sloping car park. It also has the rare advantage of free mains electricity.

We took a walk around town and bought bread, cakes and croissants at the boulangerie.

We had a quick look in the church.

There are some nice views looking down from the town to the surrounding countryside.

Violay is certainly trying to promote itself as a tourist resort.

We watched lots of TV this evening not having to worry about running our leisure battery down as we are on the mains! We watched football -  England drew with Brazil 0-0.

Today we traveled 74 miles (119 kilometres). We are at N45.85273 E4.35546
