It was beautiful and sunny and warm this morning.

Not bad at all for the third of January.

Another van had stayed overnight by the beach. We talked to its occupants Stefano and Martina. They are from Milan. Martina is studying the habits of the wolves of Bologna at the University of Venice! Very interesting people. Their is van very similar in design to ours - very unusual for Italian vanners who tend to favour quite large coachbuilt models.

We moved on from our overnight parking place and continued around the Gargano Peninsula. We went through miles of beautiful pine forests.

Also spectacular coastal scenery.

The peninsula is very mountainous and the road does many spectacular ups and downs.

Eventually we left the mountainous Gargano Peninsula and moved on down the coast to the very flat salt producing area around the City of Margherita di Savoia - "The City of Salt".

Looking for somewhere to stop for the night we found a deserted road next to what we thought was an unoccupied and uncompleted residential development and parked.

There was a marvellous sunset. Shortly afterwards a local vigilante mistook us for Romanian Gypsies and started blowing his car horn outside our van. Ann went out to negotiate with him. He said that this was a private road and we ought to clear off somewhere else. When he realised he was dealing with an elderly non Romanian he relented and agreed we could stay for one night. He then scuttled back into the gated community over the wall from whence he had come. As he clearly had no authority to allow us to stay outside his paranoid enclave we quickly moved on.

We've found an enormous car park in the centre of the City of Salt where we are now hopefully parked for the night without further disturbance?!

I'm glad to say that after we moved into town the rest of the night was uneventful! Last evening is the first time we have ever been hassled for parking our van overnight in the street, car park, lay by etc. Hope you're both well.
