After two rainy days today was sunny. We could see the snow covered peaks of the Gran Sasso from our overnight parking place at Roseto degli Abruzzo. As I think I mentioned earlier that these are the highest mountains in the Apennines with at least one peak over 2900 metres.

We started off north west up the coast road but is was very congested with no sea views so we requested our sat nav to give us a route inland but parallel with the coast. This took us through very attractive hilly country on minor roads.

Clearly a lot of wine is produced round here. Some of the vineyards are enormous.

There were some spectacular views along the way.

Here are more vineyards and a hilltop village. During today's trip we left Abruzzo and moved into Marche Region.

We came back to the coast and stopped for the night at Porto Potenza Picena. The town authorities have provided a very convenient parking place for campers with fresh water and disposal facilites for waste. There is a new looking tower and church by the beach.

The town beach looks very nice but no one was going for a dip today. We were feeling the cold for the first time for a while.

People were fishing from the beach but as usual no one was catching any fish.

We walked along the promenade. Part of it was named the Baden-Powell Belvedere after the British founder of the Boy Scouts! Weird or what?

There is a pleasant pedestrian area in the town centre. Back at the camper parking area two other vans have arrived - Italian I think.
