Woke up to a very nice sunny morning in Lido di Metaponto. Went for a stroll along the promenade - no one much around.

No one else on the beach either.

Said goodbye to the feral dogs and headed out of town.

We journeyed south down the coast of the Gulf of Taranto and crossed from Basilicata into Calabria. We then went west into the Calabrian mountains.

We stopped for the night at the town of Morano Calabro.

We have a great view to the mountains from our parking place.

The old town is almost vertical with a church and a Norman Castle on top.

We climbed up through numerous narrow streets and stairways.

At the top was the Norman Castle.

And the church.

Between the castle and the church there were two sheep.

There were some captive doves round the back of the church.

Here's a better view of the castle.

We descended back down.

I do not wish to sound prejudiced or over judgemental but I have gained a clear impression that a very large proportion  of Italian drivers have little respect for the parking regulations.

This is a campervan friendly town.

As the sun went down there was a beautiful light on the mountain.

I bought some of the local gin. There seems to be a bit of a mixed message here! Who cares when it's 4.99 euros a bottle.
