Monday 10th October 2022

We travelled south today on minor roads and did not encounter any large settlements or indeed shops or fuel stations until we reached Saint Savinien where we did a supermarket shop and took on diesel. We parked next to the River Charente on some waste ground.

Just down stream from us there is a large tidal barrage.

When we arrived in the early afternoon the tide was out.

We took a walk around. Here's the winter bit of the Aire de Camping Car.

The summer part of the Aire is closed off at present. We took a walk along it. Here's a view of our van from where we would be lucky enough to be parking if it were summer.

It's really beautiful down here - great pity it's closed off at this time of year!

We sat on a picnic bench and contemplated the view.

Back towards town there's an ornamental lake.

There's a duck house here that any Tory MP would be proud to put on her or  his expenses!

There are a few prescriptive signs around the lake.

In town there's nice boat quay.

Whatever you do around here the most important thing is to keep your dog's bottom under control!

Back at the barrage the tide had come in and the river was now flowing upstream!

The water was rising and we decided to move our van to higher ground! This evening it has rained quite a lot. The first rain we've had since we arrived in Cherbourg last Wednesday.

Today we travelled 57 miles (92 kilometres). We are at: N45.8765 W0.6867

The tides will be at their highest a couple of days after the full moon, so it might be a good decision there!

It looks like a lovely place though, and warmer than Derbyshire!

Andy It's dark now so I can't see if where we were parked down hill a bit has been flooded yet but I certainly feel safer a few metres up hill! Talking of moon did you see the pictures we belatedly put on our blog for yesterday this morning?
