This morning some of the special long horned cows which frequent these parts got herded along the road next to where we were parked.

We set off south travelling on minor roads through very remote and mountainous country. We passed an interpretive sign indicating that wolves frequented this area. We just managed to squeeze through the very narrow main street of this remote village.

It was a very tight squeeze - we had to breath in!

High up in the mountains here there are feral horses.......

......and cows.

It all looks very very much like home! We stopped for a cup of tea.

The terrain became even more rugged as we approached this dam.

We crossed over the top of the dam and stopped to look back.

We stopped for the day at the Aire in the town of Cabeceiras De Basto. Here's the view from the side door of our van. It has been a sensational but also scary journey today!

There's plenty of room here if any other vans want to stay over.

I took a walk into town and bought a few things including some very nice ham which we had for our tea. The best ham in these parts is either Jamon Iberico de Cebo or Jamon Iberico de Bellota depending on whether the pig has been fed on grass or acorns. The acorn fed pig is the most highly prized and a whole leg of it's ham costs about 1500 euros!

Today we travelled 58 miles (93 kilometres). We are at: N41.5128 W7.9862

I don't like heights at the best of times Roger, I'd feel very uncomfortable driving over that dam. Even looking at the photo makes me shiver!

The dam was the least scary bit! The road to it was very narrow, cobbled in parts and on the edge of a cliff!

I've found the dam over the River Limia on Google Maps, and its roads, I can see what you mean.
