Today we travelled north passing through the enormous mineral mines at Rio Tinto.

Most of our quite long journey today was on free motorways. We passed though varying landscapes - some growing grapes and some olives. We stopped along the way at a fuel station car park for a cup of tea.

We stopped for the day at the town of Medellin. We are at the aire, close to this beautiful old bridge.

We are parked by the river,

The bridge has many arches.

We decided to visit the remains of a roman theatre in town. We walked up past this roman wall.

The castle is high above.

There is a museum next to the ruined roman theatre housed in a disused church. We could visit the museum and theatre for 2 euros each as we are pensionistas.

The theatre appears to have been quite recently excavated.

It's in a fine position just below the castle and overlooking the town.

Here's a view of the theatre from the top.

Cortez the Spanish conqueror of what is now Mexico was born in Medellin. There is an enormous stature of him in the town square. Given the death and destruction he and his like inflicted on the indigenous peoples of the Americas I hope the people of Medellin will one day consider removing this stature - perhaps to a museum which gives some historical context to the history of Spanish colonialism?

There are signs of radicalism in the town as this wall graffiti suggests.

Back at the aire Ann took a walk by the river.

She took another view of the bridge.

Here's the view from the side door or our van this evening. This is a really marvelous place.

Today we travelled 151 miles (243 kilometres). We are at: N38,9657 W5.9637
