Monday 14th November 2022

There was a beautiful sunrise this morning which I regret not photographing. From then on the day was overcast with occasional light showers. Initially we travelled north through sparsely populated areas.

We then turned east and got onto much better roads.

We crossed from Portugal into Spain.

We passed through a few small settlements.

We stopped for the day at the town of Valverde Del Camino. We parked at the aire.

Shortly after we arrived at the aire a German couple turned up in this big Hymer A Class. We had a good chat with them. German kids get taught English in school from age 5 and they learn it. British kids get taught French in school from age 13 and they don't learn it!

The water supply at the aire is primitive to say the least. We managed to fill our water tank 3/4 full but it took a long time.

Very nearby there is a large house which was built by English people and is now a museum run by the council.

There are date palms in the garden.

It is all immaculately kept.

An English Country House?

In the garden there is this rather disturbing sculpture.

There are some beautiful cacti in the garden of the house.

Just next to our parking place is this ramshackle smallholding. The man who owns it has two dogs which bark a lot if anyone comes near. It is in stark contrast to the beautifully kept former English Country House 50 metres away!

I walked into town and bought a few oddments at the supermarket including this Jamon Iberico de Bellota. 66 grams of it cost 8.58 euros but it was incredibly delicious with some fresh bread, cheese and tomatoes not to mention some nice wine. As I think I mentioned before the best ham is from Iberico Pigs which have been fed on Acorns, ( Bellota in Spanish).

Today we travelled 69 miles (111 kilometres). We are at: N37.5814 W6.7515
