Today we travelled south to the ruined roman city at Santiago do Cacem. Ann visited the site while I sat around in our van. I'm not really in a position to comment on her pictures which I hope speak for themselves.

As we were leaving the roman ruins we passed this site where cork was being dried in the sun.

We moved on a short distance west and stopped for the day at a car park by the sea just south of Sines. Here's the view from the side door of our van. Note the impressive nearby power station.

There are lots of vans here.

This is a surfing place.

We took a walk down to the beach.

This power station is really quite something!

The beach here is really beautiful.

There are some good surfing waves coming in.

I paddled in the sea. It was nice and warm. Ann had put her swimming costume on under her clothes but when she got down here she decided the sea was  too rough for her to take a dip!

We found some nice rocks to sit on.

We are at the very edge of the coastal national park here and it would be difficult for us to stay overnight south of here on the coast due to park regulations.

Back at our van we saw some of our neighbors having their tea.

There was a bit of a sunset over the massed vans but it didn't really come out in this pic.

Today we travelled 45 miles (72 kilometres). We are at: N37.9263 W8.8055

The power station was coal fired and was closed down in Spring 2021 as part of Portugal's move to renewables. Their last coal fired power plant closed in October 2021. Well done Portugal!

When you researched the Sines power station did you find out if it is going to be demolished? I hope not as it could stand as an ancient monument to the folly of burning fossil fuels!?
