Tuesday 19th October 2021

Early this morning a very large ship docked at Port Vendres. The port itself is right next to the aire.

We serviced the van at the aire before leaving and then made a short journey north to a service station to top up our LPG tanks. We are heading towards Spain and if the Spanish Authorities let us into the country we are very suspicious about the quality of their LPG. On previous occasions we have found the LPG supplied in Spain has a large Butane content and this compound is extremely reluctant to vaporise at low temperatures stopping gas appliances from working!

We left the Mediterranean and headed south west into the Pyrenees following the valley of the River Tec. We stopped for a cup of tea next to this bridge over the Tec gorge.

We stopped for the day at the fortified mountain town of Prats de Mollo. Here's a general view towards the town from above their very nice free parking area.

There is an old fortress high above the town.

There is an impressive church.

We walked into town over the bridge high above the Tec.

The town centre is surrounded by defensive walls.

Inside the walls there is a maze of narrow cobbled streets and stairways.

The church was locked - because of "works" apparently.

The church door has an amazing old locking mechanism.

Ann came upon this very unusual shrine.

Here's the main square taken through an arrow firing slit in the fortifications.

There is one other van here today.

We went back into town later on and came across this chapel.

Here's the chapel's decorative interior.

We had a meal out in a restaurant which is recommended for Catalan dishes in our edition of The Rough Guide to France. We had the three course menu of the day and a nice bottle of local wine. We were the only customers.

After our meal, walking back over the bridge we saw that the municipality was illuminating the town walls alternatively with the French flag.........

.......and then with the Catalan flag. It's a pity that there is hardly anyone around to see the efforts the authorities have gone to!

Today we travelled 46 miles (74 kilometres). We are at: N42.4027 E2.4787
