Ann went to the Farmers' Market in Lanouaille this morning but didn't see anything that took her fancy so came back empty handed. After servicing the van we set off south.

Along the way we deviated off our route to follow signs to a cave with prehistoric rock art, but when we got there we found it was closed. This sign outside gives some idea of what we might have seen.

We stopped for a cup of tea at this disused tennis court. You can just see what is left of the umpire's chair on the left of the picture.

We stopped for the day at the village of Monpazier. The aire de camping cars was packed out so we parked in this nearby almost empty free car park.

Monpazier is a fortified village or Bastide as they are called round here. The village was founded in 1284 by King Edward1 of England who was also Duke of Aquitaine.

Today the village is a tourist trap.

The central square has a fine old market hall.

There were at one time many of these fortified villages in south west France but now only Monpazier and one other survive in their nearly original form.

This little statues stands at the entrance to the church.

The church interior is vast for what is really quite a small community.

This window is above the church entrance.

This sign depicts the layout of the village.

On the way back to our van we passed this bistrot which is recommended in the Rough Guide to France. We decided to return when it opens at 19.00.

We were the first customers at Bistrot 2 this evening.

Plenty more people soon turned up to eat.

We had the 18 euros 50 menu washed down with a nice bottle of wine. We both had Terrine for starters. For main Ann had burger and chips and I had what I would describe as duck cottage pie with a sweet potato topping. We had creme brulee for pudding. All very nice indeed.

Today we travelled 69 miles (111 kilometres)  We are at: N44.6848 E0.8929

I find that the location and street view that you document at the end of each posting very interesting. Was able to walk around as it were and get into the site of the restaurant with pictures of the food you had like the terrine. Fascinating. Hope you don't think it is too intrusive of me.

Certainly not intrusive Anne Marie, the whole point of the blog is to give followers the closest possible connection to what we experience while travelling.
