Thursday 23rd May 2019

This morning we made the short journey north east from Falaise to Saint Pierre sur Dives where we parked at the town's Aire de Camping Cars. There is a machine here where you are supposed to use your credit card to pay for parking and water but it wasn't working so we presume that we can stay here for free.

We drove to the local Lidl to do a bit of shopping and then back to the Aire. We took a walk into town.

This is the historic market hall. It was demolished in the fighting in 1944 but rebuilt by 1949!

Here's a view inside the market hall. Empty today but crowded I'm sure on Mondays which is market day here.

There are some nice looking eateries in town. Crowded at lunchtime but strangely closed in the evenings. This one is Le Greenwich - presumably because Saint Pierre is on longitude 0 degrees.

Another eatery nearby.

A little further on is another nice square.

We visited the Abbey Church.

It's an enormous building.

It was founded by Saint Wambert.

The Great Aunt of William the Conqueror is buried here.

We found out that unlike the other restaurants in town The Farmers Hotel's restaurant was open from 19.00 to 21.00 but shortly before we were planning to go out there was a torrential downpour so we decided to eat in the van. It soon cleared up. Here is the last of the day seen from our parking place.

Today we travelled 17 miles (27 kilometres). We are at N49.01748 W0.03049
