Sunday 26th May 2019

We serviced our van before leaving Honfleur and then headed south east to the Abbaye du Bec-Hellouin. We entered through this fine gateway.

Most of the original Abbey buildings were destroyed during the French Revolution however this enormous tower remains standing.

This feature at the Abbey interested me. A small river flows through an artificially constructed pond with what looks like access to dump into it from a cart or suchlike.

The original Abbey Church was demolished but this new one has a powerful presence even for atheists! There is a strong connection between this place and Canterbury Cathedral. Most of the early Archbishops of Canterbury originated from here under the patronage of William the Conqueror and his successors. Apparently the current generation of Archbishops of Canterbury are prone to come here on "retreat" even though they aren't even Catholics!

We moved on and parked for the day next to the river at the town of Broglie. Here's the view from the sliding door on the side of our van.

We walked into town. Here's the church.

This is the town square.

Polling in the European Parliamentary Elections was taking place in the Town Hall.

Today we travelled 52 miles (84 kilometres). We are at N49.00812 E0.53063
