This morning we called our breakdown service and were duly picked up on this massive recovery vehicle and taken to a garage in Saint Mere Eglise. Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to photograph our van on the back of the truck!

The problem with the van was that the warning light informing the driver of worn out break pads had failed and as a result the break pads had worn out and damaged the right front disc.

We sat around in reception at the garage for a while.

Having got a bit bored we took a walk into town. The place is all about World War 2 memorabilia. There are shops everywhere selling army surplus junk and WW2 souvenirs.

We had a look around the church.

This stained glass window graphically illustrates the descent of the paratroopers who liberated the town from Nazi occupation in June 1944.

The 75th anniversary of the D Day landings is coming up next month and the town is awash with patriotic bunting!

I must say that all of this flag wagging is not to my taste.

We stopped by a cafe for a coffee.

Back at the garage the van was now repaired at the cost of two new front brake discs and two sets of new front brake pads. All of this cost mega euros but after all it's only money. We moved back north a few kilometres and stopped for the day at the town of Barfleur. Here's the free van parking on the seafront. As you can see it is very popular.

There are some nice wetlands here just behind where we are parked. Home for a Bittern?

There is quite a big sea defence between the parking area and the sea. I took this from the top of it looking back towards our van.

From the top of the breakwater you get a good view of this very tall lighthouse.

Later on there was a nice sunset.

Today we travelled 26 miles (42 kilometres) excluding the much greater distance we were taken in the recovery truck. We are at: N49.67429 W1.26528
