Friday 16th June 2017

This morning was overcast with rain later in the day. We serviced the van before leaving Skanninge and traveled south on fairly clear roads without too many aggressive lorry drivers. We stopped for the day at a rest area very close to the town of Savsjo. From our parking place we walked over this footbridge to a ruined slot (castle).

The slot is on an island in the lake.

It doesn't have any window glass.

Nor does it have a roof.

Having visited the slot we came back over the footbridge.

Nearby is the church. Built in the late 19th Century and not very interesting in Ann's estimation.

There is however an interesting old barn nearby which was used to store grain to alleviate famine in the case of harvest failure.

Nearby we saw some impressive cattle with very long horns.

Back at the footbridge over to the slot several old geysers were fishing. I watched them for a while and none of them caught anything. I think it was primarily a social gathering.

There was lots going on in the lake - here are a pair of grebes.

There were some big fish splashing around in the shallows but by now there were no old geysers with fishing rods in sight.

A woman and two men in a clapped out VW van with Bulgarian number plates turned up. Here she is seen cooking their tea by the side of the car park. I think they are staying here overnight.

Today we traveled 87 miles (140 kilometres). We are at N57.39377 E14.68882
