Monday 12th December 2016

It was very busy in the car park at Benet this morning - there was a market and lots of people using the supermarket. We did a supermarket shop ourselves and bought some cheap diesel. We then moved on a short distance west into the Marais Poitevin - an area drained in the 17th Century by engineers from the Netherlands leaving a maze of small and large canals. The French call it Green Venice. We stopped at the town of Arcais and got out our bikes.

We set off along dedicated cycle tracks crossing numerous canals along the way.

Eventually we arrived at a larger canal where there were several old geezers fishing and not catching anything. (Who am I to talk being the worst fishing person in the world - the only thing I ever caught was a Tern!) (A Tern is a small sea bird).

We cycled back to Arcais - a round trip of about 8 kilometres.

Today we traveled 12 miles (19 kilometres) in our van. We are at N46.29631 W0.68739
