Friday 9th December 2016

It was quite misty this morning at Villiers-Charlemagne but the sun soon burned it off and we had another really nice sunny day. We traveled south to Bouchemaine which as its name implies is the mouth of the River Maine and where it flows into the Loire. We parked at the Aire de Camping Cars which is free at this time of year as the water and electricity are turned off. Here's the view up the Maine from our parking place.

We got our bikes out and cycled down the Maine to where it joins with the Loire. This heron marked the spot!

We turned west along the north bank of the Loire and soon encountered this rocky pinnacle which was formed as part of the quarrying for the nearby railway track.

Further on we saw this ruined castle.

A nearby interpretive sign explains the castle's significance.

We returned to our van. This tree covered in mistletoe is just across the Maine from where we are parked.

There was a nice sunset looking down the Maine to its junction with the Loire.

Today we traveled 41 miles (66 kilometres). We are at N47.41846 W0.61094
