Friday 13th May

From Krynki we drove a short distance south to the town of Grodek where we saw this fairly newly constructed Eastern Orthodox church. Apparently the population in the area is ethnically Belarussian and religiously Orthodox. All the Orthodox churches seem to be new as the original ones were burned down by the Catholics not so long ago!

We continued south to the town of Hadjnowka where we visited this even more impressive newly constructed Orthodox church. There was a choral festival going on there with market stalls selling ikons!

One of the ikon stalls got blown over in the high wind.

We moved on east to the village of Bialowieza - the headquarters of Bialowieza National Park is here and pictured above.

The Park Headquarters is just over a lake from the village - very picturesque. We went out for an evening meal at a nearby cafe. We had soup, dumplings, cake and beer which all came to the equivalent of about £14.

We traveled 81 miles (130 kilometres) today.
