Monday 9th May

We set off east again this morning. There were many roadside shrines along the way. All decorated like this one.

Many of the fields round here are covered in dandelions.

We finally reached our destination for the day and the start of our main destination area. After shopping for groceries at Sulwalki we stopped at the Village of Wigry - the site of the Camadolese Monastery pictured here.

We had a look around the monastery. Here's inside the church. I believe this style is called Baroque - I think it's over the top!

I don't think there are any monks here anymore. They used to live in these little houses which are now the accommodation for a hotel.

Wigry is on a peninsula almost entirely surrounded by lake. We walked through this alder thicket by the lake where we saw a deer and the remains of trees felled by beavers. We also heard bitterns booming.

We found this marvelous secluded wild camping spot close to the lake and with a monastery view. During the evening we saw marsh harriers and foxes hunting nearby.

We traveled 91 miles (147 kilometres) today.
