It was very cold in the night at Les Eyzies with frost on the vegetation first thing. Visited a local museum which gave some representations of the amazing prehistory of the Vezere valley.

Model of a Neanderthal. An earlier hominid species which inhabited this valley until about 30,000 years ago.

Model of a modern type human. Our ancestor. The valley was occupied by these simultaneously with the Neanderthals.

Later in the day we visited Abri de Cap Blanc - a prehistoric rock shelter with sculptures of horses, bison and reindeer carved about 15,000 years ago. Unfortunately we were not allowed to photograph inside.

We are staying the night in the town of Montignac further up the Vezere valley from Les Eyzies.

The town aire is excellent - very centrally located and costing 3 euros per night with electricity thrown in!
