Monday 2nd June 2025

It rained a lot today. We travelled south west and into the Pyrenees. We stopped for the day at the Aire at Mauleon Barousse. The Aire is free to stay at but charges for electricity, water and quite scandalously for sewage disposal. Otherwise a very nice place to stay.

A beautiful river runs along the side of the Aire.

The village is surrounded on all sides by heavily wooded hills.

I had a couple of walks around the village during intervals in the downpours.

In the centre of the village the river runs through a gorge.

This is a very interesting looking house.

The main square was deserted apart from a couple of cyclists sheltering in the bus stop.

The restaurant at the hotel is open 8.00 - 14.00 and 18.00 - 21.00 Wednesdays to Saturdays and 8.00 - 14.00 on Sundays. Its Monday today.

This is what we could have had if we stayed until Wednesday.

The shop is also shut on Mondays. It will be opening at 5.30 tomorrow!!

Here's the library.

I like this bench.

Back at the van French TV was debating why the French youths had rioted after their team Paris St Germain had beaten Inter Milan to win the European Cup. They had a few sociologists and criminologists on to give their opinions but none of the rioting youths got a say!

After the excessive heat of the last few days it's really quite cool today. We put the heating in the van on this evening.

Today we travelled 45 miles (72 kilometres). We are at: N42.9611 E0.5672
