Wednesday 4th June 2025
It was still raining this morning. We had great difficulty getting the barrier of the Aire at Beaudean to let us out. Shitty little Aire! We travelled first north, then west and finally south, mostly on very narrow roads in mist. In the afternoon the weather cleared up.
We parked for the day by the roadside at Gavarnie.
It costs 10 euros to park here for 24 hours. We are parked next to a machine which takes the money and issues the ticket to stick in your windscreen.
Gavarnie is a very spectacular place. We are parked at about 1400 metres above sea level which is not ideal for Ann's breathing.
I took a walk into the village.
To the south of the village is The Cirque of Gavarnie. 1500 metres cliffs with a huge waterfall coming down the middle and topped by three peaks all over 3000 metres.
I walked a small way up towards the Cirque. Ann and I walked right up to the waterfall when we visited here at least 25 years ago. Talking of which we first met on 4th June 1993, 32 years ago today at The National Centre for the Welsh Language in Gwynedd, North Wales.
The valley leading up to the Cirque is awash with spring flowers.
The mountain rescue post here is run by the French Police.
Here's the view from our van looking north down the valley we came up to get here.
Today we travelled 50 miles (81 kilometres). We are at: N42.7372 W0.0128

Congratulations on your most impressive anniversary of 32 years history. You’re very good to remember the details.
It's easy to remember things like that!
