This morning at about 4.00 I got up for a wee. When I had finished I tried to close the cassette but the lever came adrift so the cassette remained open with the SOG running. Unless I could close the cassette opening I would not be able to extract the cassette from the van and reconnect the lever to the cassette mechanism! Using a knife I somehow managed to close the cassette. I could then go outside the van and remove the cassette, locate the screw and bezel that had become detached and reconnect the lever to the cassette mechanism. Mega scary stuff in the middle of the night. (This will mean nothing to non motor homers/campervanners, but those of us who are, will recognise this as a nightmare scenario, which, if not resolved, would have had literally landed us in the shit!!).
After servicing the van we left Poblacion and headed south west to Reinosa where we stopped at Lidl and did a largish shop. We continued south west to Aguilar de Campoo and then north west to Cervera de Pisguerga where we stopped for the day at the Aire. Ann got on her wheels and set off to photograph flowers.
Here's another one of her compositions.
She then roped me in to accompany her on a much longer trip.
We passed by this interesting mural.
We crossed the Rio Pisguerga on this wheelchair accessible bridge.
Here's the river taken from the bridge.
And in the other direction.
We went into a nice park.
There is quite a lot of public art here such as this.
And this.
And this.
This interpretive sign marks the start of The Trail of the Bear. It does however make the point that if you walk the trail you are unlikely to see a bear as they tend to keep themselves to themselves!
Probably this is the nearest thing to a bear you're going to see.
Even though we are parked in an industrial estate this is the view from the side door of our van.
There are several ducks splashing around in the river this afternoon.
Was this just good accurate parking or a lucky escape from colliding with the most wonderful sign you can imagine? ("No parking for anything except Campervans and Motorhomes" - you would never see a sign like that in Britain where the likes of us are treated like something the cat brought in!).
There are big mountains to the west but they're for tomorrow or the day after.
Today we travelled 48 miles (77 kilometres). We are at: N42.8715 W4.5001
