Today Thursday 4th June (our 22nd Anniversary) we travelled north west through the Welsh Hills.

We stopped off at the head of the Tanat Valley for a brief walk around.

Further on we stopped for a cup of tea on the shore of Bala Lake. I inherited an 18th Century water colour painting of Bala Lake from my late adopted mother. I think this view is more or less where it was painted from. David Cox the artist used a considerable amount of artistic licence making the Aran mountain range to the left of the picture much more prominent than it really is and completely painting out the low hills on the right of the picture to reveal Cader Idris which is further down the valley!

Yet further on we stopped by Llyn Ogwen at the foot of Tryfan.

The crag in the foreground is the Milestone Buttress of Tryfan. Once a very popular climbing crag today it was deserted despite perfect warm dry climbing conditions and lots and lots of people around. I guess fashions change and despite having easy routes right next to the road it seems no one comes here to climb any more.

Tonight we are staying at the house of our friend Judy Zarach. She has a beautiful house and garden right in the centre of Bangor with fantastic views to the mountains and the sea.
