Today Friday 12th June we followed the Forestry Commission's "Forest Drive" north east through Kielder Forest. We went through some very wild country.

We stopped off a few times along the way.

There is a marker stone at the highpoint where we crossed the watershed.

Desending the other side of the pass we saw major logging operations pictured here and a deer which we didn't manage to photograph.

At the end of the "Forest Drive" we reached the main A68 and headed north. We soon crossed the border from England into Scotland.

Just a few miles north of the border is the very nice small town of Jedburgh where we have stopped for the night in the free town centre car park. There is an Austrian and a German van here too.

We visited the nearby Jedburgh Abbey (Historic Scotland £4.40 for over 60s)

You can see how nearby the Abbey is to our parking place.

The Abbey was burned down by the English in the 16th Century.

Ann inspects the Abbey's herb garden. We're seriously considering a meal out on the town this evening!

We did indeed have a very nice meal out in Jedburgh - at The Carters Rest - Ann had pork and I had fish and we both had pudding. We also talked to the Austrian vanners pictured above. They bought their "homemade" VW conversion for 4000 Euros and are travelling Europe for a year, this being their first trip. The reason they are looking under the van is because diesel is leaking out - possibly an overfilling problem!?
