It rained quite a lot this morning at the Derwent Reservoir but as of recent days the weather cleared up as the day went on. We travelled north to the Clennell Hall Country House Hotel close to the Scottish Border in Northumberland. This place is not what it seems at first sight!

The place offers many things as the sign at the entrance describes.

You can stay on their lawn for free!

Before we had time to appreciate the full amazingness of the hotel we went for a bike ride along the nearby river.

While on the bike ride a couple walked past us with their cat in a rucksack.

Back at the hotel other campers were arriving and setting up elaborate awnings on the lawn.

There are some marvellous views from where we are parked.

There is a combination of the Munsters and Fawlty Towers about this place.

Poor little deer!

The proprietor, seen here behind the bar, seemed a bit morose on first acquaintance but turned out to be a bundle of fun once you got to know him. We had no high hopes as to the quality of the offerings here but we had few drinks and a meal which were excellent and it all came to just over £30!

The hotel gardens are all immaculately kept. This place appears at first sight to be posh but in fact it is the total opposite. Very hard to get your head round and quite sensational.

Today we travelled 68 miles (109 kilometres) We are at: N55.35841 W2.11326

Clennell House Hotel    No street view available.
