A very hot day. We left Semington and travelled to Caen Hill Locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal near Devizes.

There are 16 locks at Caen Hill.

They form a steep series of closely spaced locks known as a flight.

Several boats passed through the locks while we were there.

Working the locks is hard physical work.

There are some long term moorings at Caen Hill.

Here's one of the resident boats.

Some of the residents have little gardens next to their mooring.

We moved on to Avebury Stone Circle.

This place in on a truly epic scale which makes other prehistoric monuments such as Stonehenge look tiny.

The stone circle is surrounded by an enormous bank and ditch almost a kilometre in diameter.

It is very difficult to understand how people in prehistoric times could have completed these enormous earthworks and brought here and erected these enormous stones.

It is such a pity that this incredible monument has been so badly treated by the countless generations who came after the original builders. Roads and houses have been built in the circle and many of the stones have been removed.

We moved on to Oxford to try to meet up with Ann's son Jake. We couldn't get him on the phone so we parked in his drive way.

Just round the corner we found his boat. We had never seen either house or boat before.

Eventually Jake came home from work.

There is this interesting annexe out the back of Jake's house.

He calls the annexe his man cave.

As Jake was busy this evening we moved on to The Red Lion pub on the outskirts of Oxford where we are staying in the car park tonight.

Today we travelled 77 miles (124 kilometres). We are at N51.77229 W1.23651
