Tuesday 7th June 2022

Great excitement this morning - a couple of cargo boats turned up near our parking place and loaded up with gravel from the nearby quarry.

We set off west and soon crossed the Rhine from Germany into France.

There isn't even a sign marking the international border here - just this French regional boundary sign.

Once into France we soon found an open post office and posted Ann's cards then we headed north west and stopped for the day at the town of Bitche. The aire is just next to this 17th Century fortification.

Some soldiers were here when we arrived but they soon left.

Below the old fortifications there is a Peace Garden.

We walked round the fortifications - Warning Sheep - don't feed the animals - keep dogs on a lead - we didn't see any sheep.

From up here there is a good view of the town below.

This is the Peace Garden.

The old fortifications are enormous and very impressive.

Here's looking down to the aire from up by the fortifications.

We made our way back to our van having completed the circumnavigation of the fort. We were just in time as there was a heavy rainstorm soon after we got back. There's lots to do and see here - it's a very nice Aire!

Today we travelled 47 miles (76 kilometres). We are at: N49.0551 E7.4345
